Grade 8 Social Studies

Course Description

The Grade 8 Social Studies course is designed to help students develop a strong understanding of Bahamian and Caribbean history while building the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and exam strategies needed for success in the Bahamas Junior Certificate (BJC) examination.

The course follows the curriculum guidelines of the Bahamas Ministry of Education and provides students with structured instruction covering key historical events, people, developments, and themes. Students will explore how historical events have shaped The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean while learning to interpret historical information, identify cause and effect, analyze evidence, and make connections between past and present.

This is a self-paced course for students to review notes and questions at their availability. 

MATERIALS: All materials will be provided for students throughout the course. 

TECHNOLOGY: Participants will need access to internet and a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet to participate in this course.

Student Outcome

By the end of the course, students will be confident in applying knowledge, interpreting exam questions, and demonstrating the competencies required to achieve passing BJC results.

Who Should Take This Course

This course is designed for students in Grade 8 who are preparing to sit the Bahamas Junior Certificate (BJC) Social Studies examination. It is ideal for junior high school students in The Bahamas who want to strengthen their understanding of Social Studies. The course is also suitable for students who need additional academic support, those who wish to improve their exam skills and confidence and homeschool or independent learners planning to take the national BJC examinations.
